Installation of hardwood flooring

The installer or owner before floor installation has to estimate the quality of boards, finishing, color, has to take out the defective boards. You must make sure, that the boards are suitable for installation. If the floor is not good quality, please contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer is not responsible for the quality of the floor or other costs incurred, if any boards with easily observable defects were installed.

However, keep in mind, that the wooden floor - it's a natural product with potential changes in the structure and color, which are influenced by wood grading. Also the manufacturer is not responsible for the fact, that the color is not identical to example, because each tree is distinctive colors, each shade looks differently on different quality boards. The installer or owner is responsible to create the right conditions for floor installation and operation.

Technical requirements for floor installation

Before you start installing the „STAKI“ hardwood flooring, make sure, that all wet jobs are finished in the room, there the floor will be laid, because it can increase the humidity level. All subsequent resulting moisture will absorb into the wooden flooring and boards will be deformed.

Installation of wooden flooring has to be one of the last repairing jobs. Wooden flooring - it's like a living organism, which is very sensitive to changes of the environment, especially to humidity changes. During the summer, when it is very warm and moist, the relative humidity may rise by up to 90%. When moisture content rises above 65%, it is generated conditions, that may deform the hardwood flooring. All of the excess moisture can cause wooden flooring to cup. When a wooden boards cups, its edges are higher than its center. If that happened, you urgently have to fix the cause, which increased the humidity. Wooden boards can get back to its original dimensions, but you‘ll have to wait till all excess moisture has evaporated from them. If form of boards has changed, do sanding, oiling or varnishing one more time.

In the winter time, when the houses are heated, the reverse process takes place, the humidity of the air reduses and the air dries out. When humidity drops lower then 45%, wooden flooring gives up some of its moisture and contracts as a result. When this happens, thin gaps can appear between planks. In order, to reduce or avoid this process, you'll need to install the air-conditioning system, which will allow you to monitor and control humidity level in your home all year round, for solid flooring - 45-55%, for hardwood engineered parquet - 40-60%.

The second, a very important criterion for floor installation, is a suitable room temperature, it has to be +18 ± 4° C. Flooring packages must be kept for 2 days before installation in the room, where it will be laid, for wood adaptation to the room temperature and humidity. Packaging has to be unpacked.
All the above mentioned conditions must be made at least a week before installation of hardwood flooring. Inappropriate storage conditions may affect the deformation of the boards. Do not storage a wooden flooring in a wet basement!

Wooden flooring can be laid down directly on the concrete, OSB or plywood. The flooring base must be smooth (3 mm roughness / 2 m2), dry and protected from moisture, rising from the bottom (as using a special waterproofing mixtures). The substrate can not be a cork panel, foamed polyethylene and other soft surfaces. The moisture content of concrete must not exceed 2% CM, for heated flooring – 1.8% CM, humidity of OSB and plywood - 10-12%.

An engineered hardwood parquet might be glued to a wooden base or straight on the concrete, using a special glue. Before floor installation on the heated base, make sure that heating of the entire floor area is the same. It is very important, that floor temperature fluctuation amplitude would be a small. Recommended flooring temperature change is not more than 2-4° C during a day, for lifting or reducing the temperature of the floor. Temperature of heating on the surface of floorboards must never exceed +27° C. Equal conditions for the exploitation of the parquet area will help to avoid gaps between the planks or cracks on the surface of the board.

The installer or owner is responsible that wooden parquet would be installed only on a suitable base. The flooring base must be smooth, dry, solid, unbroken or damaged in any way, the correct thickness, free from other building materials, such as glue, cement, mud, cement and etc. The manufacturer doesn‘t give a warranty for hardwood flooring, if you have chosen the unsuitable base for floor installation, unsuitable tools or glue.

Use just a special, elastic glue for installation of flooring. Floorboards have to be glue to the ground. If the floorboards will be glued on the heated base, primarily make sure that they are suitable for it in their instructions.

„STAKI“ offers German „STAUF“ glue for wooden flooring installation:
- Elastic one-component glue „Stauf SPU -460”,
- For oiled or lacquered parquet „Stauf OSB Parquet glue“,
- 2-components polyurethane glue „Stauf PUK-446“.

„STAKI“ doesn‘t give a warranty for flooring, if solid wood flooring were installed in floating manner as laminated floors, or glued on a heated floor. Floor installation should be trust to experienced professionals, that floors could service for many years, and not experiment and try to do it yourself.

Floor care and maintenance

The last step of floor installation is coating them with lacquer or oil. If the client wants to keep a natural look of wooden flooring, we recommend to choose an oiling. The oil well absorbes into wooden surface, unlike varnish, which covers the floor with thin film. Furthermore, oiled floors are easier to renew. You do not have to grind all the floor space, if you want to upgrade just a small floor area. It is enough to sand this area and cover it with oil. No differences between old and new oiling. However, do not abandon oiled parquet and refresh an oiled surface by manufacturer recommendations. The wooden flooring has to be renewed 1-2 times a year for average wear, 2-4 times for intensive wear.

Flooring manufacturer doesn‘t give a warranty for floor, if you are using non-specialized finishes for wooden floors, or improperly caring for them.
„STAKI“ recommends to use German „SAICOS Premium Hardwax-Oil ". „SAICOS COLOUR“ is one of the leading manufacturers of decorative products in Europe. We sell the following colors: Pure (3305), white (3409), extra white (3408), silver grey (3417) and teak wood finish (3428).

„STAKI“ oak flooring you can buy varnished, unfinished or prefinished, which after installation should be additionally covered with one coat of oil. We also produce varnished, aged, brushed - structured floors. We offer four flooring collections: ClassicProvence, Vintage, Sylvan. Come and pick up your favorite floors.

Keep in mind, that the natural floor color will change, when it will be covered with oil or varnish. Wooden flooring finishing work should be carried out strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, in compliance with safety requirements.
The manufacturer doesn‘t give a warranty for floor, if installation and finishing jobs were done improperly with unsuitable tools or materials.
